Smart Home Improvements (SHI) was founded in 2020, initially focusing on property refurbishments for clients. As demand grew, it became clear that the company had built a
strong, reliable team of skilled tradesmen
—a key factor in delivering high-quality renovations efficiently and effectively.
At SHI, we are passionate about transforming properties while ensuring a smooth, hassle-free experience for homeowners and investors alike. Our expertise spans across
full home renovations, internal and external transformations, commercial-to-residential conversions, and bespoke refurbishments.

Meet David & Gary
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
DAVID SMART
David started his career as a Heating Engineer, completing a four-year Heating & Ventilation apprenticeship (2016-2020)
before transitioning into the Oil & Gas industry, where he worked across the North Sea and internationally.
In 2020, he established Smart Property Group, which now operates three divisions:
➡️Smart Sales & Investments – Helping investors find and develop profitable property deals
➡️Smart Home Improvements – Specialising in high-quality refurbishments and renovations
➡️Smart Property Lets – Managing rental properties with professional expertise
David is a hands-on investor and developer, having personally undertaken large commercial-to-residential conversions, one- to two-bedroom transformations, and full home refurbishments. He understands the challenges property owners face and has built a trustworthy, skilled team to provide seamless renovation services. His priority is customer satisfaction, strong relationships, and creating repeat business through exceptional results.
PROJECT MANAGER
GARY MCDOUGALL
Gary is a skilled joiner by trade, having completed a four-year apprenticeship from 2017 to 2021, qualifying at just 21 years old. Immediately after, he launched his career as a self-employed joiner, specialising in roughing and finishing joinery across Scotland. His expertise extends beyond craftsmanship, as he has successfully project managed hundreds of renovation projects across Scotland.
With years of hands-on experience, Gary has built strong relationships with tradespeople across the industry, giving him valuable insight into every aspect of the building process. His passion for property investment began in 2024, which is also when he met David. That same year, he started documenting his journey online, sharing the highs and lows of property development through candid, on-camera storytelling.
Gary takes pride in his open and transparent approach, always striving to build trust and leave a lasting first impression—something he believes is key when working with clients.
Fun Fact: Despite his background in construction, Gary is a
country music fan at heart—something most people wouldn’t expect!
